Showcase of Winning Designs of Sacco Bean Bag Chair at Milan Design Week 2019

• The new Zanotta showroom in Piazza XXV Aprile set the stage for the grand prizegiving ceremony and exhibition of winning designs in celebration of the 50+1 anniversary of the iconic chair

10 May 2019, Singapore – Under the historical architecture of the old Excise Buildings in Milan, Italy, the three winning designs of the iconic Sacco bean bag chair were displayed for all to see during Milan Design Week 2019. These three pieces impressed judges with their creativity at the design competition organised by Zanotta and W. Atelier together with DesignCouncil Singapore in 2018. Flown in to kick off Sacco’s 50+1 Anniversary celebrations this year, they were displayed at Casello (Excise Building) in Piazza XXV Aprile till 30 April 2019.

In a dedicated space near the entrance of the showroom, the three sacco chairs particularly stood out for the way they preserve tradition while re-inventing form – and for taking a piece of Asia to Milan as they are designed with the theme “Urban Living the Asian Way” in mind. The top three designers who masterfully integrated an Asian essence and a personal story into their creations are Mr Jarrod Lim, Ms Karyn Lim and Ms Tiffany Loy.

Re-created using zips, beads and yarn, the three Sacco chairs won over the guests who were in awe by the creative interpretations. Many of them were especially intrigued by the Asian inspiration behind these designs and some even wanted to know if these unique designs were going to be produced and sold in the future.

Mr. Gani Atmadiredja, Managing Director of W. Atelier, shares: “We are very proud of our local talents for making a mark on the international design scene. The chairs were not only outstanding in design – they also tell the story of an Asian way of living to a global audience.”

After impressing at Milan Design Week 2019, the three chairs will return to Singapore to be displayed at the National Design Centre for from 4 July – 28 July along with the other designs that made the top 10 in the competition.
