Fritz Hansen
A century and a half of Danish design — distilled.
From a Copenhagen cabinetmaker's workshop in 1872 to the home of Series 7™, Egg™, Swan™, Drop™ and the PK collection. Fritz Hansen is the maker behind the most photographed chairs of the 20th century — every one of them still produced in Allerød, Denmark.
Fritz Hansen™
· Est. 1872 ·
A Copenhagen workshop that shaped Danish modernism.
Founded in 1872 by Danish cabinetmaker Fritz Hansen in Copenhagen, the workshop began as a producer of fine wooden furniture for the city's bourgeoisie. Within a generation it had become a pioneer: in the early 1900s Fritz Hansen patented its steam-bending and lamination techniques, opening the door to a new kind of light, sculptural seating that would define 20th-century Danish design. By 1934 the company was producing the Spanish Chair with Søren Hansen; in 1952, a young architect named Arne Jacobsen would change the trajectory of furniture design forever with the Ant Chair — a stackable, three-legged form moulded from a single sheet of plywood for Novo Nordisk's canteen.
What followed is the most concentrated body of design icons produced under any one roof: Series 7™ (1955), the most successful chair design in furniture history; the Egg™ and Swan™ chairs (1958), originally commissioned for Copenhagen's Radisson SAS Royal Hotel; the Drop™ (1958); and the PK Series by Poul Kjærholm — a modernist masterclass in steel, leather and stone. Today Fritz Hansen continues to produce every piece at its Allerød factory, working with Cecilie Manz, Jaime Hayon, Michael Anastassiades, Sebastian Herkner, Jasper Morrison and Piero Lissoni. As authorised Fritz Hansen partner in Singapore, W. Atelier carries the full Republic of Fritz Hansen™ collection at our Henderson Road showroom.
Four pillars of Fritz Hansen.
Danish Since 1872
Over 150 years of continuous production from a single Danish heritage. Today's pieces are still made at Fritz Hansen's headquarters in Allerød, by Danish craftspeople trained in steam-bending, lamination and upholstery.
Pioneers of Bent Wood
Fritz Hansen's early-1900s lamination patents made possible the moulded plywood seating that defined Danish modernism — Ant, Series 7, Lily, Drop. The technique remains a hallmark of the brand a century on.
The Republic of Fritz Hansen™
Every authentic Fritz Hansen piece is stamped with the Republic mark — confirming production at Allerød under licence from the original designer or estate. The single most reliable way to authenticate the brand.
Authenticated by W. Atelier
Every Fritz Hansen piece sold by W. Atelier carries the original Republic of Fritz Hansen™ stamp and authentication certificate — guaranteed authentic, traceable to Allerød, supported lifetime.
From Arne Jacobsen to Anastassiades — the architects of Danish design.
Fritz Hansen's catalogue is the closest thing the design world has to a permanent collection. Each piece carries the signature of its author.

Series 7™
The most successful chair design in furniture history, with over 8 million produced. A continuous moulded plywood shell on a sled or four-leg base — radically simple, infinitely customisable. Available in 14 lacquered colours, multiple veneers, full upholstery options, and three base finishes. Every Series 7 is still made by hand-pressing wood veneer in Allerød.

Egg™ Chair
Designed in 1958 for Copenhagen's Radisson SAS Royal Hotel — Jacobsen's total work where every chair, lamp, faucet and ashtray was authored by him. The Egg's enveloping shell creates a private room within a room, suspended on a four-star aluminium base that swivels. Available in fabric, wool and four leather grades.

PK Series
Kjærholm's design language was pure modernist precision — steel, leather, stone, glass — every joint visible, every line deliberate. The PK22 lounge chair won the Grand Prize at the Milan Triennale in 1957. The PK31 sofa system, the PK20 lounge, the PK0 plywood form: each is a quiet object lesson in restraint.

Drop™
The Drop disappeared from the catalogue for over 50 years until Fritz Hansen reissued it in 2014 from Jacobsen's original drawings — an organic teardrop form, deceptively simple, that pairs as beautifully with a Wegner sideboard as with a contemporary marble table. Available in over 25 colours and full upholstery.
