W. Atelier Ventures Outdoors with Finely-Crafted Teak Furniture from Gloster

Timeless outdoor furniture originating from premium plantation-grown teak, with collections that span seating to loungers to dining tables and chairs

12 November 2019, Singapore – Outdoor living is redefined with teak, craftsmanship and innovation by Gloster, the award-winning furniture brand from Germany that is partnering W. Atelier to bring its complete range of the finest outdoor furniture to Singapore. As a worldwide design leader in teak, woven, aluminium, stainless steel and outdoor lounge furniture, Gloster’s enduring furniture lasts as long as its brand which continues to innovate and collaborate with designers such as Henrik Pedersen, Sebastian Herkner and Mark Gabbertas.

Each piece of Gloster furniture is made from teak that is sourced from the carefully managed, Indonesian plantations of state-owned Perum Perhutani on the island of East Java. Teak has been the benchmark hardwood for fine outdoor furniture for more than 700 years – it is extremely hard-wearing, highly resistant to rotting and almost impervious to the effects of sun, rain, frost or snow due to its high natural oil content.

With a history that traces back to West Africa in 1960 and decades of fine-tuning teak furniture into enduring, beautifully buffed and naturally finished furniture for the outdoors, Gloster has outlasted many a competition – the result of using carefully selected logs with the fewest defects and fine craftsmanship at work. Human hands have created every rounded corner and every joint, which are strengthened with the use of kiln dried timber and modern wood-working machinery to provide the strongest means of joining the component parts together for the most perfect fit.

On the partnership, Mr Gani Atmadiredja, Managing Director of W. Atelier, shares: “Our partnership with Gloster allows our expanded range of luxury furniture and homeware furnishings to encompass even outdoor living which has been a prominent lifestyle choice for many homeowners in Singapore. We are proud to work with a leading brand that has spread its unparalleled designs and philosophy all over the world.”

Mr Lasse Noerbaek, Sales Director (EMEA & AP) at Gloster, says: “Singapore’s proximity to Gloster’s production setup in Indonesia leads us to enter a partnership with W. Atelier, a homegrown brand that has established strong affiliations in the luxury market. We hope to propel Gloster to become one of the leaders in the luxury outdoor furniture business in Asia.”

Kay – Embracing Comfort

  • Gloster Furniture - Kay

With a dramatically curved and sculptured back panel, the unique backrest is without doubt the defining statement of the Kay range. The collection by Henrik Pedersen combines weatherproof and durable materials with a timeless, Scandinavian-style teak frame to create a seating and dining collection that is both visually striking as well as comfortable and welcoming. The new Kay lounger launched for the 2020 season adds to the collection of Lounger Chair, Rocking Chair, Sofa, Ottoman and Dining Chair with Arms.

Maya – Refined Seating Sophistication

  • Gloster Furniture - May

The Maya seating and table units refine the principle of the iconic Cloud range that was launched in 2010 to reflect and enhance the sophistication of the new Gloster design philosophy. The dimension of the frame is reduced and the ultra-slender powder coated aluminium profile connects to cast aluminium legs that support side and back cushions covered in a specially developed knitted fabrics by Sunbrella. Versatile table units complement the Maya system for elevated outdoor lounging and living that is precisely designed by Mark Gabbertas.

Grid – Award-Winning Flexible Seating System

  • Gloster Furniture - Grid

2015 Red Dot Award Winner Grid was conceived by Henrik Pedersen as a bridge between stark minimalist design and large-scale luxury. By combining slim, aluminium frames powder coated in Meteor or White with the elegant geometric forms of deep and comfortable seat and back cushions, Grid forms the basis of a flexible seating system that meets the specific needs of the user.
