Since 1918, Kaldewei has made bathrooms in Ahlen, Westphalia, from a single material: steel enamel — a sheet of steel fused with glass, pressed into bathtubs, floor-level shower surfaces and washbasins that resist scratches, chemicals and time. Free-standing Meisterstücke by Stefan Diez, Arik Levy and Sottsass Associati, the Nexsys shower surface, the Miena and Ming washbowls — designed and made in Germany, backed by a 30-year guarantee, and presented in Singapore by W. Atelier.

One material, a century of bathing.
Kaldewei's story began in October 1918, when master plumber Franz Kaldewei registered a small tinware factory in Ahlen, Westphalia, supplying the town's enamel industry. His son Heinrich joined the business in 1928 and turned it towards the product that would define it: in 1934 the first Kaldewei bathtubs in steel enamel left the works, and the company set about perfecting a material of its own — robust steel and fine glass fused into one inseparable, pore-free surface. By the 1970s Kaldewei was pressing seamless bathtubs and had become the first in its industry to put robots on the enamelling line, so that every tub and shower tray left Ahlen with the same flawless coat.
Under Franz-Dieter Kaldewei, who took over in 1973, design became the second pillar. He commissioned Sottsass Associati in Milan and Phoenix Design in Stuttgart to shape ergonomic baths and shower trays in new colours, and the collaborations have never stopped: Arik Levy's Meisterstück Emerso, Studio Aisslinger's Incava and Superplan Zero, Anke Salomon's Miena washbowls and Stefan Diez's egg-shaped Oyo Duo have earned Kaldewei more than 150 design awards, among them thirteen Red Dot and nine iF awards. In 2015 washbasins joined the range, so that bathtub, shower surface and basin could at last share one material and one design language — the Perfect Match. Now owned by the fourth generation and still manufacturing exclusively in Ahlen, Kaldewei backs its 100% recyclable steel enamel with a 30-year guarantee. As Kaldewei's Singapore partner, W. Atelier presents the collection — including the Sound Wave bath audio system it launched here in 2024 — at our Henderson Road showroom.

Bathtubs & Meisterstücke
The bath as sculpture. The Meisterstücke are Kaldewei's free-standing masterpieces — Stefan Diez's egg-shaped Oyo Duo, Sottsass Associati's Centro Duo Oval and Conoduo, Arik Levy's Emerso — each pressed seamlessly from steel enamel with two identical backrests and a central waste, made for two. Beside them, the built-in range: Puro, Classic Duo, Cayono and Asymmetric Duo, from 1.40 to over 2 metres, with anti-slip and Invisible Grip surfaces, LED mood lighting and the Sound Wave bath audio system that turns the tub itself into a speaker.

Shower Surfaces
The shower that disappears into the floor. Kaldewei's floor-level shower surfaces replace tiles and grout with one pore-free sheet of steel enamel — Nexsys arrives as a complete, pre-assembled system with integrated waste channel and sloping support; Superplan Zero by Werner Aisslinger is absolutely flat, with no inner contour at all; Cayonoplan and Conoflat bring the same hygiene to every size from 75 × 70 cm up to 180 × 100 cm. All in the Coordinated Colours Collection, with anti-slip or the near-invisible Invisible Grip finish.

Washbasins
When the basin completes the room. Anke Salomon's Miena washbowls are so thin-walled they look almost fragile — the robust steel enamel beneath is the point. Ming borrows the narrow lip of an Asian vase; Cono, Puro, Silenio and Centro run the same forms as Kaldewei's bathtubs and shower surfaces through countertop, undercounter, built-in, wall-hung and double versions, so a whole bathroom can be furnished in one material and one design language.
