Fritz Hansen Series 7™ Diamond Anniversary Celebration

Showcase of limited Series 7™ jubilee models – available only in 2015
Partnership with Noden for feature of first edition Series 7™ and Ant™ chairs

12 March 2015, Singapore – A much-loved icon celebrated its 60th birthday and a stylishly dressed crowd gathered to deliver their best wishes and feast their eyes on some very special vintage chairs. On 6 March 2015, W. Atelier hosted a casual gathering-cum net working evening reception for 100 guests from the design and architecture industries in honour of Republic of Fritz Hansen’s Series 7™ on the occasion of the chair’s 60th anniversary.

Still in perfect shape despite being six decades old, the classic stackable chair designed by Arne Jacobsen was the star of the evening, but it had to share the limelight with two new, limited editions created specially to mark the occasion. While the Series 7™ is always available in ten different veneers, the exclusive, jubilee twin models are only available in 2015. Both were showcased that night: one with dark blue lacquer shell and powder-coated burnished legs, and its complement in pale pink lacquer with 24-karat gold-plated legs.

Also in the evening’s spotlight were two units of first edition Ant™ and Series 7™ chairs. The former is the predecessor of the latter; Arne Jacobsen achieved a breakthrough in 1952 with the Ant™, which was succeeded by the Series 7™ in 1955, propelling his and Fritz Hansen’s names into furniture history.

For this celebratory event, W. Atelier partnered with vintage Scandinavian and European design retailer Noden to present these rare vintage chairs. Noden’s owner Marko Yeo was present, drawing on his knowledge of vintage furniture and product design to share with the audience the histories of Arne Jacobsen and Fritz Hansen. He also helped answer questions on the vintage chairs on show.

Guests were treated to simple and delicious pork and beef brisket sandwiches with beer. The informal atmosphere did away with fussy elements, letting the showcased chairs sparkle. This made for a tasteful, unique affair combining good food, classic design and original masterpieces.
