Danish Wizardry: W. Atelier Introduces Republic of Fritz Hansen. First Republic of Fritz Hansen flagship store in Singapore injects boost to island’s design conscious culture. Collaborations with today’s brightest young designers ensures 142-year-old design giant remains cutting-edge.

2 July 2014, Singapore – Barely three months after Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2014 – where Republic of Fritz Hansen showed the world the Analog™ table and re-launched the classic Drop™ chair – W. Atelier brings these pieces to our shores at the first ever Republic of Fritz Hansen flagship store in Singapore. Along with them come the other luxury furniture pieces, both classics and newer designs, from the Danish furniture icon. The design giant needs scant introduction; even those not able to identify the Egg™ or Swan™ chairs by name would have seen it at some point – so strongly is Fritz Hansen positioned within our cultural consciousness.

With the clean, pure lines and high-quality craftsmanship of mid-century Danish furniture beloved worldwide, it is difficult to find an institutional building, office or museum’s contemporary product collection without a Fritz Hansen chair, table or light fixture. In Singapore, where people have fallen in love with Scandinavian design’s simple, unfussy lines matched with graphic patterns or delicate colours, the Republic of Fritz Hansen flagship store brings with it the brand’s 20th century design heritage with a shot of contemporary cool. After all, while the company is the custodian of designs by Arne Jacobsen, Poul Kjærholm, Hans J. Wegner and Piet Hein, it also manufactures modern classics like the Ro™ easy chair and foot stool by Jaime Hayon, Essay™ table by Cecilie Manz, RIN™ chair by Hiromichi Konno and Space™ chair by Jehs+Laub. And of course, the new Analog™ table is also Hayon’s progeny.

Along with the Analog, another exciting new development for the brand is the reintroduction of the bold, iconic Drop, a chair with an important lineage. Made by Arne Jacobsen in 1958 for the legendary SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, the Drop was originally made along with the Swan and the Egg, but never put into standard production. Partnering with W. Atelier, Republic of Fritz Hansen will offer the cutting-edge, contemporary style and high-quality craftsmanship they are known for worldwide. Managing Director, Gani Atmadiredja comments: "It was just the right timing to bring in Republic of Fritz Hansen, since it had just introduced the exciting work by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon at Milan, and re-launched the classic Drop chair that I can already see being a perfect accent in many modern interiors."
